Giant’s Castle & San Rock Art Tour
-
06h00 – Duration: 13 hours
If walking in the mountains is your thing, then you will like the enjoyable walk to see the San (Bushmen) rock art in the caves of the Maloti-Drakensberg mountains – a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The name of this range is derived from the shape of the peaks and escarpment, which are thought to resemble the profile of a sleeping giant.
A guide at the caves will tell you all about the San people and their artwork, which depicts various animals, hunters and half-animal/half-human hybrids and was drawn while in a trance-like state brought about by medicine, dancing and drumming. These rock paintings depict San religious beliefs and practices of the time, offering an insight into their life.
Time-permitting, the journey back to Durban will include a stop at Piggly Wiggly – an outdoor shopping centre offering many lifestyle destination/arts/crafts/farm produce shops and eating establishments.
